Within a 30 minute drive you will  reach Longleat, a great day out for the whole family - Longleat House is widely regarded as one of the best examples of high Elizabethan architecture in Britain and the home of BBC's Animal Park.

Within an hour's drive of Dolphin Cottage there are some magnificent National Trust properties, including Stourhead, Dyrham Park, Montacute House, Mottisfont, Lytes Carey, Tyntesfield, the exquisite garden at The Courts at Holt and the Fox Talbot museum at Lacock -also famous as a Harry Potter film location!

Then there is the great circle of stones at Stonehenge, the more intimate Avebury Stone Circle and the mystical pull of Glastonbury. And the caves both at Cheddar and Wookey Hole are stunning examples of underground limestone formations. 

The historic City of Wells with its stunning Gothic Cathedral, the beautiful and peaceful Bishop's Palace and Gardens is just a 40 minute drive from the cottage across Mendip - a lovely day out with maybe lunch at Goodfellows, an award winning cafe and restaurant

For a real old fastioned day out by the seaside, why not take the train from Freshford Station down to Regency town of Weymouth - where you'll find the station is just close by the large sandy beach!
